The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel puts guests in the center of the action – literally. Because we are conveniently located in the heart of downtown Denver, it’s easy to find something to do at any hour of the day – or night. And for out of town guests visiting for major events and attractions, we’re the perfect hotel partner because we are minutes away from the Colorado Convention Center, Coors Field (home to the Colorado Rockies), the Pepsi Center (home to the Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Avalanche and the Colorado Mammoth) and Sports Authority Field at Mile High (home to the Broncos), in addition to the Golden Triangle Museum District, the Denver Theatre District and much, much more.

A few weeks ago, Denver was home to the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championships (March 30 – April 1), and the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel was privileged to be chosen as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) headquarters hotel. This is the first time the women’s collegiate basketball championships were held in Denver, and the games at the Pepsi Center weren’t the only big draw. The Mile High Magic Salute Premiere drew an all-time record attendance; nearly 8,000 fans attended open practices, autograph sessions and other events during Super Saturday at the Pepsi Center; and nearly 24,000 fans descended on Tourney Town at the Colorado Convention Center. Other well-attended events included a Jewel concert, NCAA Youth Clinics, the 4Kay Run and the Mile High Dribble, among others.

When Denver is showcased in the national spotlight, the city’s partners have an opportunity to shine as well. Not surprisingly, the tournament is typically a big economic boon for hotels hosting teams, which have “hard-core” fan bases and well-organized booster and alumni groups that guarantee solid attendance at any game, let along during the championships. We’re pleased that so many team members, visitors, fans and VIPs chose the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel as their temporary home during the tournament. And we’re proud that the WBCA chose to hold their annual Awards Show on April 2 in our Plaza Ballroom (the show was part of the WBCA National Convention, which was held in conjunction with the Final Four).

While the 2013 Women’s Championship will be held in New Orleans, hopefully the tournament will return to Denver in the near future. When it does, the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel will be ready to help put on another first-class event and show the world once again the wonderful things the city has to offer.
