On Saturday, March 10, the Latin American Educational Foundation (LAEF) held their annual Gala – this year themed “El Toro!” – at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. We’re honored and thrilled to once again be the location for this special annual event, and look forward to hosting many more in the future.
For more than 62 years, LAEF – one of the oldest Hispanic Organizations in the nation – has established itself as a leader in meeting the higher education needs of Hispanic students in Colorado. Since 1949, they have awarded nearly $6 million to over 5,000 students, and their recipients’ successes are seen throughout the community.
The Gala is LAEF’s main fundraiser to raise money for scholarship programs, and the event has become one of the Latino community’s largest black-tie affairs. This year there were more than 1,000 attendees including Governor Hickenlooper, Lieutenant Governor Garcia and Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet. The evening’s entertainment featured 10-piece dance band Soul-X and Los Angeles comedian Lisa Alvarado, the “Latin Queen of Comedy.” Among the evening’s honorees were Judge Roger Cisneros, who received the Sol Trujillo National Lifetime Leadership Award, and Sonia Gutierrez, the 2011 Lola A Salazar Student of the year.
