The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel is committed to green initiatives and sustainability; a focus easily seen in the 3,195 pounds of soap recycled, 6,505 pounds of waste diverted from landfills and 5.5 million gallons of water saved in the past year.

The hotel's tower, built by legendary architect I.M. Pei was actually constructed by using aggregate from the site in 1959, one of the first sustainably constructed buildings in Denver. At the Sheraton Denver Downtown, sustainability isn't just an initiative, but a legacy.

The Sheraton is now home to the first hydroponic vertical garden installation in the United States! Spanish architectural firm Urbanarbolismo crafted a living logo for the brand, which will be monitored from Spain via a computer network. The Mile High Gardening Conference, recently held at the hotel, raised funds for this soil-less installation displayed toward the 16th St Mall. The display will use Colorado perennials that are capable of withstanding the cold winter temperatures.

The meetings and events sector has been receiving some considerable attention lately from the highest level of government. Why? A few weeks ago, the U.S. Travel Association launched a major year-long campaign – called “Vote Travel” – to raise awareness of the travel industry’s impact on the economy and build support for travel industry policy and advocacy, among other goals. As the largest hotel in Colorado with the most meeting space, the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel is uniquely positioned to join the conversation and highlight the critical importance of meetings and conventions to the economy – which happens to be another objective of the “Vote Travel” campaign. For more details and to read our thoughts on the subject (GM Mike Ehmann’s to be specific, as he’s quoted!), check out the article below, which appeared in online news resource Hotel News Now on Feb. 9, 2012.
